YUMI KARASUMARU

(Osaka, 1958)
She lives and works between Bologna and Kawanishi. Since the 1990s, Yumi Karasumaru’s research has developed in parallel between painting and performance, with a keen eye on the relationship between the present and the past of her country of origin, Japan. Her paintings are based on photographic images, often taken by the artist herself, in which portraits of families and adolescents met on the streets of Tokyo neighborhoods alternate: “in young neighborhoods such as Shibuya, Harajuku and Akihabara, I have seen thousands of people meet, fall in love, hate each other, look at each other, gather together, discuss, an almost 360° meeting of emotions”.
